Welcome and Getting Started

Dreams contain all the elements of great literature: Metaphor, symbolism, vivid imagery, pathos, puns, and personification. So it is no surprise that writers from Coleridge to Clifton to King use dreams and visions to craft their works.

Dreams offer new writers and experienced authors alike first drafts, unique characters, and surprising plot twists.

In Dreaming on the Page you will learn to mine the intersections between dreams and writing to enhance your writing--and become a more conscious and skillful dreamer.

You will receive creative prompts to experience the joys and benefits of working with the power of dreams and the subconscious in your writing. You will also receive tips and techniques to take home and use in their writing practice.

This subscription course is open to writers of all genres, from casual journal-writers to published authors--and to everyone, whether you remember their dreams or not.

How it works

  • You'll receive weekly lessons to spark your creativity on the page.
  • Lessons are released one week at a time to give you time with each one before moving on to the next.
  • You can log onto the course at any time to access the available content.
  • If you have any questions or problems please be in touch. It's our goal to make your journey a dreamy one.

Prepare for the journey

To make the best of your time with Dreaming on the Page we recommend the following:

  • Create space: Choose or create a quiet, comfortable space where you'll enjoy sitting with your journal or laptop, and set aside 20 minutes a day or so of dreamy time to write and reflect.
  • Commit to your bedtime: You'll be learning a lot about the rewards of remembering and recording your dreams. While you don't have to remember your dreams to benefit from the Dreaming on the Page practice, your experience will be enriched by getting a good night's sleep and recalling your dreams if you can.
  • Get in the mood: Adopt a patient, non-judgmental, loving, and kind attitude toward yourself as you embark on this journey. Go easy on yourself. Don't try too hard to remember dreams, and don't try too hard when you're composing journal entries, poems, essays, and stories, either. Just set an intention to be open and receptive to all parts of yourself. And, enjoy!
  • Set an intention: Write down in your journal and in the comments below what you want to focus on during the following 8 weeks. It can be a creative writing project or just the intention to be open and connect in a different way with creative inspiration. You can read this post for more ideas.
